This installation is about the war in Ukraine, the aggression, the occupation of a country, shrinking its territory, a claustrophobic feeling in your own habitat, your own "apartment".

And yes, I'm pretty sure you have another point of view on the fact that I've physically reduced the total amount of square meters of your apartment.
You've probably already noticed my spatial intervention…at least that's what the two police officers just told me at my front door.Please consider me your best friend.
Ask me how I feel…
At least this time I didn't have to put too much pressure on your neighbors to tell me that your shadow is most stationary these days..
Maybe I stretched the walls of your apartment just a little too hard? It was not my original idea to reuse your carpet into a spatial straitjacket.
Although… In a split second I was driven to cut the carpet borders loose and pull up the sides while moving your apartment walls towards each other.
I’m quite sure that I left you enough interspace to move between your furniture. But, here again, what is enough for you?

En ja, ik ben er vrij zeker van dat je een andere mening nahoudt op het feit dat ik het aantal vierkante meters van jouw appartement fysiek gereduceerd heb.
Je hebt mijn ruimtelijke ingreep vast reeds gemerkt…tenminste dat is wat de twee politieagenten me zonet aan mijn voordeur vertelden.
Alsjeblieft, beschouw mij als jouw beste vriend…
Vraag me hoe ik me voel…
Deze keer moest ik jouw buren tenminste niet àl te veel onder druk zetten om mij toe te vertrouwen dat jouw schaduw weinig beweeglijk is dezer dagen.
Misschien spande ik de muren van jouw appartement net iets te hard aan? Het was niet mijn oorspronkelijk idee om jouw vast tapijt te hergebruiken tot een ruimtelijke dwangbuis.
Hoewel… In een fractie van een seconde werd ik ertoe gedreven om de tapijtranden los te snijden, vervolgens die zijden op te trekken en terwijl de muren van jouw appartement naar
elkaar toe te verschuiven. Ik ben er vrij zeker van dat ik jou voldoende tussenruimte liet om tussen jouw meubels te kunnen blijven bewegen…
Maar, hier ook weer, wat is voldoende voor jou? Vraag me hoe ik me voel…”

The message receiver who undergoes and ignores the barrage of voice messages in order to consciously lead a new life…with an adversary who compulsively wants to cling to the past … incompatible, opposite visions. However, it doesn't stop with this form of verbal stalking… …aggression, a horrible spatial impact, a forced claustrophobic physical intervention (the squeezing of the apartment walls) … The image of a country, it's residents like this Ukrainian apartment: Georgievskaya 79, center Mariupol (dated 08/04/2022).
This installation works on different layers, the interpersonal as well as the geopolitical. The apartment as a symbol of the intrusion of an aggressor who takes away land, room to move, freedom and life.
A spoken message that testifies to a mentally ill ex-partner (Russia) who believes in his own truth, his own story and who presents itself at the same time as a victim and as a rescuer. Victim because he claims he is not heard and rescuer because he tries to convince his environment and himself of his actions. Ask me how I feel…

De boodschapontvanger die het spervuur aan ingesproken stalkberichten ondergaat en negeert om bewust een nieuw leven te kunnen leiden…met een tegenpartij die zich dwangmatig
aan het verleden wil blijven vastklampen …onverenigbare, uit elkaar gegroeide visies. Het blijft echter niet bij deze vorm van verbale stalking…
…agressie, een naar de keel grijpende ruimtelijke impact, een opgedrongen claustrofobisch fysieke interventie (het samen spannen van appartementswanden) …

De gelaagdheid van deze installatie speelt zich zowel af op het niveau van het intermenselijke als van het geopolitieke. Een ingeperkte appartementsoppervlakte als symbool van het binnendringen van een aggressor die land, bewegingsruimte, vrijheid en leven afneemt.
Een gesproken boodschap met een taalgebruik dat getuigt van een mentaal zieke ex-partner (Rusland) die gelooft in zijn eigen waarheid, zijn eigen verhaal. En die zichzelf tegelijkertijd profileert als slachtoffer en als redder. Slachtoffer omdat hij naar eigen zeggen niet gehoord wordt en redder omdat hij daarmee zijn omgeving en zichzelf probeert te overtuigen van zijn daden. Ask me how I feel…
