"0.00000000499064255sec" is a short film (15:43:00min) as a research in the arts by Bert Koeck, visual artist, based Brussels (B) by following his own shadow from sunrise to sunset. The changing position of the sun during this period determines the trajectory. The shadow is followed without compromises, in an autistic way. Every obstacle on the trajectory must be overcome. "No obstacle may interrupt my path." A number of tools were created for this purpose ("shadow tracer-01", "interceptor-01", "artificial helio-01"...). Logistical support was also provided. Every 30 minutes I stoped for 120 seconds during which my own shadow was measured at that specific time at those exactly corresponding coordinates on Earth. This data is recorded both digitally and analogously on topographic maps. At each of those coordinates, as a geographical trace, an oak tree was planned (every 30 minutes) creating a linear forest along the entire route.
The title of this project ( "0.00000000499064255sec" ) is the exact time it takes for my shadow, based on the speed of light to form at full length on the ground surface. It is called here "the shadow-age" and changes at any time, at any place on earth. It is an overlap between science, history and art.
Sequel to this short film is an installation created for New York City : "Your Silhouette is so stationary now" ("interdimensional data-dating" Phd-research project.)

“0.00000000499064255sec" is een kortfilm (15:43:00min) als een onderzoek in de kunsten van Bert Koeck, beeldend kunstenaar uit Brussel (B).
Hierbij wordt de eigen schaduw gevolgd van zonsopgang tot zonsondergang. De veranderende positie van de zon gedurende deze tijdspanne bepaalt zo het traject. De schaduw wordt zonder compromissen op een autistische manier gevolgd. Elk obstakel op het traject moet overwonnen worden. “No obstakel may interrupt my path”. Daarvoor werden een aantal tools gemaakt (“shadow tracer-01”, “interceptor-01”, “artificial helio-01”…). Daarnaast werd er ook voor logistieke ondersteuning gezorgd. Elke 30 minuten wordt er gedurende 120 seconden halt gehouden waarbij de eigen schaduw opgemeten werd op dat specifiek tijdstip op die exact corresponderende coördinaten op aarde. Deze gegevens worden zowel digitaal als analoog geregistreerd op topografische landkaarten. Bovendien werd op elk van die coördinaten, als een geografisch spoor, een eik gepland (elke 30 minuten) waardoor er een lineair bos ontstaan is over het volledige traject.
De titel van dit project ( “0.00000000499064255sec” ) is de exacte tijd die mijn schaduw, op basis van de lichtsnelheid nodig heeft om zich op volledige lengte te vormen op het grondoppervlak. Deze wordt hier “de schaduw-leeftijd” genoemd en verandert op elk moment, op elke plaats op aarde. Het is een overlapping tussen wetenschap, geschiedenis en kunst.
